Sedimentation

Once the flocs are formed, water is allowed to sit in a large tank. This helps the flocs settle down to the bottom as they are heavier and can be easily removed from the water.

Filtration

After sedimentation, water is passed through filtration beds. These filtration beds are usually made from sand and gravel – and sometimes, activated carbon. This removes remaining suspended particles, bacteria and other impurities.

Disinfection

This is the last step where water is treated with disinfectants, like chlorine, ultraviolet, or ozone. The last step ensures that water is free from impurities that could cause illness.
